"Schools Open Head Lice Hero Offers FREE Lice Checks in Westchester

GOT LICE GET A HERO

This coming Tuesday, September 13th and Thursday, September 15th, 2011, Head Lice Hero and Lice Safe Products are offering free head lice checks and kits to Westchester residents at their Eastchester location from 9 am to 1pm. In an effort to spread awareness of lice during the new school season, Head Lice Heroes will be giving away free LICE SAFE, lice treatment kits, to the first 100 families that come in.
Joe Munoz, Founder of Head Lice Hero says that "some children are returning to school with additional unwanted hitchhikers on their hair. Many kids catch it after having been to camp or other summer activities." He believes that children should immediately be screened for head lice, because even though lice are not considered a disease, "the spreading of arthropods should be a concern to many parents who fear that their child may have picked it up coming to and from camp and school." Head Lice Hero and Life Safe Products' free screening are hoping to give a peace of mind to those parents and keep the schools lice free for the first semester.
The screening takes place at 233 Main Street, Eastchester. No appointment is needed—just turn up. For those parents who cannot make the screening, discounted $25 lice checks are available by appointment. Call (888) 966-5423 for more information, or to learn about the Lice Safe Products visit, Http://licesafe.com or buy online at http://bestpricesalon.com
Head Lice Hero's goal and focus is to educate and create awareness about lice. They use a five times Doppler magnifier to view the lice and nits. These special tools used by Head Lice Hero and provided by Lice Safe Products are used to give the client quality service. The overall goal is to give the client the best experience during lice screening and termination. Joe Munoz hopes to eliminate the horrible experience many people, especially children, have during the spreading of lice.

Santa Claus brings head lice this year!

Scarsdale, N.Y/December 9, 2009/. Santa Claus will not only bring gifts and surprises, but he will also bring head lice to anyone in both the good and naughty list this year. During these holidays, so many families will go away on vacation or visit relatives. Whether you are traveling through train or airplane, your biggest worries are to remember not to pack liquids in your carry-on luggage or not to forget anything at home. But did you ever stop to think, “Will I bring back home with me those pesky little bugs in my hair?”

Airplane seats and train seats are notorious for incubating head lice and they provide an ever replacing host for them to attach themselves on and continue the spread of lice. Head Lice can be passed on from contact with another person that has lice or seat, mattresses, pillows and covers that have been contaminated with the lice.

So, what do you do to prevent coming home with head lice? “There are 3 easy steps to prevent head lice this year” says Jose Alberto, Founder of Head Lice Heroes and lice expert. “First, get checked before going away. This way you know you are starting with lice free hair. Second, take with you a barrier and use a head lice defender while away, and last get check after coming back, you may not see them easily, but they might be there.” Incase you do bring back head lice with you. Keep your sanity and seek the help of a local Head Lice Hero. They are just a phone call away, and they will help answer any questions regarding lice.

“While most over the counter products suggest that head lice can be treated by anyone with or without training, the truth is that to insure the infestation is eliminated, I suggest that you contact a licensed professional, like the ones at Head Lice Heroes. You can rest assure that all of the lice, nymph and nits will be terminated.” says Sarah from Bronxville, N.Y.

Swedes Coming to America, Grandly Sign in to Recommend

By STEPHEN HOLDEN

Published: September 25, 2009

If the moribund music-theater genre facetiously nicknamed poperetta has any chance of a resurgence on Broadway, it could come somewhere down the road from an American production of the bombastic Swedish epic “Kristina.”

Rachel Papo for The New York Times

Russell Watson and Helen Sjoholm in a concert staging of “Kristina” at Carnegie Hall.

The show, which had two lavish concert performances at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, was created by Benny Andersson (music) and Bjorn Ulvaeus (lyrics), those box office champs who gave us “Mamma Mia!” (and before that “Chess”) and whose first-name initials provide the two B’s in ABBA. Herbert Kretzmer, a songwriter best known for his English lyrics for Charles Aznavour standards, collaborated with Mr. Ulvaeus on the flowery translations.

A mammoth hit in Sweden, where it opened in 1995 and ran for four years, “Kristina” is adapted from “The Emigrants,” Vilhelm Moberg’s novel about a group of Swedes, who, escaping multiple hardships, immigrate to America in the middle of the 19th century and settle in the Minnesota Territory. The closest comparison to a Broadway forerunner would be to “Les Misérables,” another musical pageant with epic pretensions, although the score of “Kristina” is more substantial.

At the second Carnegie Hall show, the creators were splendidly served by the assembled forces, which included a cast of 27 and the 50-piece American Theater Orchestra, conducted by Paul Gemignani. The ensemble delivered a well-balanced, finely detailed symphonic sound.

The story was illustrated by black-and-white slides over which florid historical commentary, resembling the titles in the movie “Gone With the Wind,” was scrolled. Louise Pitre (from “Mamma Mia!”), playing Ulrika, a village prostitute who begins a new life in America, filled in as occasional narrator.

The lead singers, Helen Sjoholm, who played the title character in the original Swedish production, and Russell Watson, portrayed the show’s central married couple, Kristina and Karl Oskar, who undertake the harrowing three-month voyage to the New World along with children and other residents of their village. Both have first-rate poperetta voices, with Mr. Watson’s Puccini-ready tenor the more operatic. Each brings down the house at least once.

On Thursday, September 03, 2009, 2PM–5PM, at The Greenwich Family YMCA Childcare Center, 2 St. Roch's Avenue Greenwich, CT 06830, tel. (203) 869-3381 and Thursday, September 10, 2009, 2:PM–5:PM, at The White Plains Family YMCA Childcare Center, 250 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, N.Y. 10605-1398, tel. (914) 949-8030. Join us and have your children or yourself screened for these pests. Although head lice have not been known to transmit disease, the scratching can create open sores which can be come susceptible to infection. “We recommend every parent and child be aware of available screenings within your local community. While parents play a crucial role in keeping vigilance, we must not succumb to urban stigmas that prevent clear communication and mitigate the spread and chance of re-infection of the lice. We are committed to the neighborhoods, by helping, hands on,” said Michele Errico from HLH.

Pediculus Humanus Capitis, or head lice, as they are more commonly known, are tiny parasitic insects that feed on human blood and develop on the scalp. Having head lice is very common. In fact, 6–12 million people get head lice every year. No one is immune to head lice; anyone who is exposed to someone who already has the parasite is at greatest risk. Preschool and elementary school children, ages 3–11 years, and their families are typically most at risk. Girls get head lice more often than boys, and women more than men. Head lice can be transferred in clothing, such as hats, scarves, and coats, and personal items, like hairbrushes and towels.

The Secret to elimanting head lice from camp in one hour or less

Head Lice, Head LicE, boy there is definitely plenty of talk about lice. but 14 days of combing does not seem fair with lice around the clock and total pandemonium "Today my three daughter where sent home from camp, two with lice one with nits. my school has a no nit policy and they will not e allowed back in school until i have the problem rectified, i can not wait two weeks of combing. when i read about a web site http://www.licecentersofamerica.org/ that compares the different methods including the "wet combing" i came to the conclusion that lice matters are best handled by heroes. so i called a head lice hero, they had provided screening for the kids camp last year. they came over in about an hour and we where OK to go back to camp and finish the day there. they are the best!" LICE could be Eating You UP!!

Yes we are the main course for these nasty anthropoids. Although its been hard for me to accept the facts that i am the main course its true. if if lice go undetected they spread. Spread to anyone that you come into contract with.

No they will not fly across the room. Contact as in close physical contact. The best engine for lice transfer is head to head or by using a third object rather that just the two heads. you know what works great at conductor or lice transportation device is sharing combs. That means if you have lice and are using a lice comb Do NOT Share that comb unless you wish to share the lice. if you need to use the cob on some else please sterilize cob first by boiling it for about 3 min. Everyone agrees that Heat Kills Lice and More Importantly kills the nits.
